Garena introduced the Garena Professional League (GPL) in May 2012, a six month-long professional gaming league that includes more than 100 matches online. The first season of GPL is an internet-based League of Legends tournament with six professional teams. Teams are composed of top players from their countries. GPL games are recorded and streamed online with the commentary. These are accessible to viewers to see on the GPL official website. In January 2013, Garena released the 2nd year of its Garena Premier League, which began on January 4, 2013. Garena Premier League, 2013 will include two teams made up of Taiwan & Vietnam. The current total of eight teams will be expanded to nine. These teams include: AHQ (Asia), Saigon Fantastic Five (Saigon Jokers), Bangkok Titans (Bangkok) and Kuala Lumpur Hunters(Kuala Lumpur) and Manila Eagles(Manila) Taiwan Assassins, and Singapore Sentinels. Garena's ESports Stadium that is specifically designed for esports in Neihu District Taipei, opened its doors on the 14th of November 14, 2014. The facility was constructed to facilitate the launch of the League of Legends Masters Series The top-level Taiwan, Hong Kong, as well as the Macau LoL league, which is a part of the GPL. Garena started this league Iron Solari League - a League of Legends competition for women living in the Philippines at the beginning of January 2015. This is a bi-monthly event that is played in the second quarter of each month. The event is designed to encourage participation by communities that are underrepresented and is open to any women who identify as the same. In addition to tournaments that are competitive, Garena also organizes events that allow users to meet and connect offline.
